Cecily is a cartoon character particularly
enjoyed by women in the 30 –70 year age bracket.
Cecily is a middle class woman who exposes her fragilities
and foibles with a wry, self-denigrating humour. She exists
in many
of us and through her we are able to laugh compassionately
at ourselves. Gordon, the shy bachelor, and Jude, the careworn
mother
of two, also make the odd appearance.
Cecily appears on a wide range of greeting
cards, stationery and gifts. |
She has been seen regularly in the following publications:
NZ: Next magazine; Christchurch Press; Dominion Post, Wellington; Waikato Times;
Heritage Roses Journal; Her Business magazine; Australia: Capital Magazine,
Canberra; Essence magazine, Melbourne; UK: Birmingham Post; Western Mail, Wales
Cecily is the creation of Celia Allison. Celia grew up in rural
Canterbury, and after many itinerant years, now resides in Lyttelton.
Following graduation from Wellington Polytechnic with a Diploma
in Visual Communication Design in illustration and graphic design
Celia has worked in this area for many years. She also produces
Moa Revival, a New Zealand range of stationery. With many cartoon
commissions under her belt Cecily evolved as a pet project though,
as Celia protests (not too loudly, she hopes), she is
not necessarily autobiographical.
